The Education Ministry will accept students expelled from Maktab Rendah Sains Mara (MRSM) into government schools.

Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said this was because the responsibility of educating students lies under the ministry's purview.

"If they are sent to our schools, we must accept them because it is our duty and commitment. We are always ready to receive any of our children for education.

"So I don't think the issue of us not giving them a chance or rejecting them arises. We are doing this based on responsibility," she said.

She was speaking to Berita Harian at Terminal 1 of Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) late last night, while waiting for the arrival of the Seri Puteri School Orchestra, the Seri Puteri Symphonic Winds Orchestra (SPWinds).

Commenting on the case of a Form Two student who punched a teacher at a secondary school in Kajang, Fadhlina said the ministry would leave it to the police to investigate.

Fadhlina was referring to the incident in which a teacher was punched by a student enraged after being reprimanded for skipping physical education class the day before.

She said that although the ministry has its own procedures for handling incidents in schools, when the police are involved, the ministry will hand over the matter fully to the authorities.

At the same time, Fadhlina said the ministry will focus on providing counselling support for the affected teacher.

Media reports yesterday said that the 29-year-old male teacher lodged a police report at 7.15pm on the same day.

The incident, witnessed by several teachers and other students, has also gone viral on social media.

The 14-year-old student was arrested yesterday in the Kajang area and remanded for two days.

The investigation paper has been referred to the deputy public prosecutor, and police have received instructions to charge the student at the Kajang magistrate's court today.
