Utility company worker charged with cheating two women of RM108,500

A water supply company employee was charged in two separate magistrate's courts here today with cheating two women out of a total of RM108,500.
The accused, Mohd Rashid Sidek, 42, pleaded not guilty after the charges were read to him separately before magistrates Nurul Saqinah Rosli and Norsalihah Sulaiman.
On the first charge, the accused allegedly cheated a 38-year-old woman by deceiving her into transferring RM96,500 into his bank account.
On the second charge, he allegedly cheated a 34-year-old woman, dishonestly inducing her to transfer RM12,000 into his bank account.
Both offences were committed at Taman Nada Embun and Taman Nilam Sari here between Dec 30, 2025, and May 4.
Deputy public prosecutors Nurnadiahani Ideris and J. G. Vesvanathan offered bail at RM6,000 and RM5,000 for the respective charges.
National Legal Aid Foundation (YBGK) lawyers Ardelliza Izmaryanti Shafie and Ng Yunn Yiing, representing the accused, pleaded for minimum bail, stating that their client earns RM4,000 a month, is married, and has a three-year-old child.
The courts granted bail totalling RM7,500 for both charges with one surety.
The cases have been fixed for mention on Aug 6 and 12 for document submission and the appointment of counsel.
