Police have arrested seven people in connection with dangerous "wheelie" stunts captured in a viral video on several major roads in the city.
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the incidents took place at 3.30am on May 23 along Jalan Raja Laut, Jalan Tun Razak and Jalan P. Ramlee.
He said the case came to light after a 44-second video showing motorcyclists performing wheelie stunts with pillion riders was uploaded on Facebook on May 31.
"Following intelligence and investigations by the department's Intelligence and Operations Unit, the first arrest was made at 3.20am on June 1," he said in a statement today.
The arrest involved a 20-year-old man and his 16-year-old girlfriend, who was riding pillion, on a Yamaha 135LC motorcycle.
"A second operation at 12.54am yesterday led to the arrest of two male riders aged 17 and 16, along with two female pillion riders aged 18 and 15," he said.
He added that all those detained were believed to be involved in the viral video.
The second arrest involved two Yamaha 135LC motorcycles.
Mohd Zamzuri said statements had been recorded from all suspects and investigations are ongoing.
The case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous riding.
He said those under 18 had since been released on police bail after their statements were taken, pending further investigation.
