Authorities foiled a woman's attempt to repeatedly purchase subsidised petrol and detained the suspect in Chabang Empat here yesterday morning.
The 59-year-old woman was arrested at 7.05am during an integrated Ops Tiris 4.0 operation conducted by the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry.
Kelantan Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry deputy director Aswadi Jaafar said the operation was carried out together with the Marine Police Force.
"We detected the woman repeatedly filling up petrol at a petrol station in Chabang Empat before she was detained. Further inspection of the vehicle revealed a Perodua Kenari modified with a special tank to store petrol.
"We also seized 50 litres of petrol siphoned from the modified tank," he said in a statement here.
He explained that the total seized value was estimated at more than RM5,000, involving both the vehicle and the petrol.
"The case is being investigated under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961 for possession of controlled goods with the intent to commit an offence.
"The ministry issues a stern warning that enforcement action will continue to be stepped up to combat the misappropriation of subsidised controlled goods, especially in border areas," he said.
