Twenty years after Malaysia last ruled the world in girls' doubles, Adelia Nur Irwan Syazalee-Adania Mohd Redzwan restored the nation's place at the summit by capturing the title at the IBF World Youth Championships on home soil on Monday.
The Malaysians defeated Americans Erin Klemencic-Elizabeth Teuber 2-0 (244-181, 207-201) in the final at Megalanes Sarawak, ending a two-decade wait for the country's second girls' doubles world crown.
The triumph saw the pair emulate Esther Cheah-Zandra Aziela Ibrahim Hakimi, who delivered Malaysia's first girls' doubles world title at the 2006 championships in Berlin.
The victory also marked another milestone in an outstanding week for Adelia-Adania, who had earlier won bronze in the girls' team event and helped Malaysia qualify for Monday's mixed team final alongside Ethan Damien Goh and Muhd Aiman Syahin Sulaiman.
Malaysia will now turn their attention to the mixed team final later on Monday, with Adelia and Adania aiming to cap a memorable championships by winning a second world title.
