India's Abhay looms as Asiad threat to Eain Yow

India's Abhay Singh, who has emerged as a threat to Malaysia's defending champion Ng Eain Yow at next month's Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, won the US$15,000 Tuanku Muhriz Trophy in Seremban today.
The top seeded world No. 24 beat Hong Kong's third seed Henry Leung 11-7, 6-11, 3-11, 11-5, 12-10 in 49 minutes in the final at Seremban Two Sports Complex.
In the semi-final, Abhay defeated Malaysia's C. Ameeshenraj 7-11, 11-9, 11-7, 7-11, 11-3.
The 27-year-old, who won the Indian Open in March, said: "My ultimate goal is to win the Asian Games individual gold and qualify for the 2028 Olympics.
"I will be second seeded in the Asian Games, and Malaysia's Eain Yow, who is the world No. 18, will again be the favourite for the title.
"This will be my second Asian Games. We won the team title in 2023," said Abhay.
The others in the India men's team for the Asian Games are Veer Chotrani, Velavan Senthilkumar and Suraj Chand.
Meanwhile, Egypt's seventh seed Sohayla Hazem upset sixth seed Heylie Fung of Hong Kong 11-4, 11-2, 11-9 in the Tuanku Muhriz Trophy women's final.
