Floods hit two Alor Gajah areas due to continuous heavy rain

Continuous heavy rain for more than six hours from 6am today caused flooding in two areas in Alor Gajah.
Melaka Civil Defence Force (APM) director Lt Col (PA) Kamarulsyah Muslim said that as of 12.30pm today, flooding was reported at Taman Ria Masjid Tanah and Jalan Bandar Baru Masjid Tanah, while the number of affected residents and houses was still being ascertained.
"The affected areas were inundated following continuous heavy rain, which caused river and drainage ditch water levels to rise and overflow into nearby low-lying residential areas.
"However, no relief centres have been opened so far, with APM personnel and related agencies continuing to monitor the situation in the affected areas," he said in a statement here today.
Continuous heavy rain was also reported in Melaka Tengah and Jasin, but no flood incidents have been reported in the two districts so far.
