Just mention Penang, you will definitely imagine the deliciousness of Nasi Kandar which is filled with a mixture of curry, lady finger and spicy chicken.

Our visit to Yusuf Restaurant on the recommendation of Tourism Malaysia Utara certainly did not disappoint our hopes of enjoying the deliciousness of Penang nasi kandar.

Yusuf Restaurant, located on Jalan Terubong Relau, Bayang Lepas, owned by Muhamad Yusuf Muhammad Abbas, is one of the popular nasi kandar restaurants since 2015.

According to Yusuf, every day he is visited by more than a hundred visitors to dine at his restaurant even though they have to wait in line.

"Most of the customers who come love the nasi kandar mixed with curry sauce that is ground by themselves. Perhaps this is the specialty of our cuisine which has a different taste compared to other nasi kandar restaurants.

“We produce about 30 types of dishes a day. Among the popular menus are ayam ros, ayam bawang, ayam kari, ayam madu, ayam kurma, ayam tanam masak dengan nasi brayani, ayam kampung kari, itik nila ros, kambing kurma and many more.

“More than 100 chickens are used in a day for chicken-based menus. Sometimes the response is unexpected, so we have to increase the number of chickens. The price of our nasi kandar is between RM7.00 to RM10.00,” he said when interviewed at his restaurant recently.

Muhamad Yusuf also sells mutabak ayam, mutabak deng and mutabak kambing. According to him, the demand for his murtabak is very encouraging every day.

“I produce more than 100 pieces of murtabak a day but it depends on the demand. The price of chicken and meat murtabak is RM5.00 and lamb RM8.50. The specialty of the murtabak here is that we use spices that we grind ourselves in addition to basic ingredients such as onions, flour and eggs.

“Onions and onions fried in ghee are ingredients that are eaten with murtabak apart from curry sauce. Please come and try the different flavors of our menu,” he said with a smile.
