Mixed doubles Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei cruised into the Macau Open second round today after demolishing homesters Leong Lok Chong-Ng Weng Chi 21-11, 21-11 at the East Asian Games Dome.
The world No. 3 Malaysian duo will face China's Li Hong Yi-Huang Ke Xin next.
Tang Jie-Ee Wei briefly broke up before reuniting at the Singapore Open in May. Since then, they recorded semi-final finishes at the Indonesia and Japan Opens, and reached last week's China Open quarter-finals.
However, they have yet to reach a final this season. With several top pairs skipping the Macau Open, Tang Jie-Ee Wei have a good chance of winning the Super 300 event.
In other mixed doubles matches, Malaysia's world No. 127 Jimmy Wong-Lai Pei Jing beat Hong Kong's world No. 131 Hung Kuei Chun-Tsang Hiu Yan 21-15, 21-11 to set up a second round meeting with India's fifth seeds Dhruv Kapila-Tanisha Crasto. However, Liew Xun-Ho Lo Ee lost 21-7, 21-14 to China's world No. 30 Gao Jia Xuan-Wu Meng Ying.
In women's doubles, world No. 224 Cheng Su Hui-Tan Zhing Yi upset Taiwan's world No. 50 Chen Su Yu-Hsieh Yi En 21-13, 21-16. The Malaysians will meet Taiwan's second seeds and world No. 12 Hsieh Pei Shan-Hung En Tzu in the next round.
Meanwhile, World Junior Championships silver medallists Dania Sofea Zaidi-Low Zi Yu, competing in a Super 300 event for the first time, fell 21-11, 21-14 to Japan's seventh seeds and world No. 63 Kaho Osawa-Mai Tanabe.
In men's singles, world No. 43 Aidil Sholeh Ali Sadikin suffered an early exit after going down 22-20, 21-7 to Canada's world No. 32 Brian Yang.
World No. 41 women's singles K. Letshanaa put up a strong fight, but eventually succumbed 13-21, 22-20, 19-21 to Hong Kong's world No. 46 Happy Lo.
